The conference aims to offer a forum for dissemination and discussion of recent progress in research on the climate of the region surrounding the Mediterranean Sea and extending to the Black Sea and the Caspian Sea. The objective is to promote exchange of information between, on the one hand, climatologists, and on the other hand, hydrologists, ecologists, social scientists, human health experts, economists and agronomists.

The conference sessions will include the traditional topics of the MedCLIVAR programme: paleoclimate, synoptic climatology, sea level and circulation, aerosol chemistry and climate, modeling of the Mediterranean regional climate system, climate change at regional scale at its impacts. Contributions on the Caspian Sea region, which is a climatically connected domain of the Seas of the Old World, are also welcome. Further the conference topics will consider impact of climate change on energy and agriculture, vulnerability of ecosystems, ecological services and extreme events. However, the organization of the conference is open for new ideas and welcome proposals for thematic sessions to be included in the conference programme. Please email proposals for session and relative conveners to info. Submitted proposals will be discussed within the steering and scientific committees and considered for the conference programme.

Please email info if you want to receive updates on the conference and its organization.

The accepted contributions will be published in the conference proceedings. A special issue based on the studies presented during the conference is planned.
